Reed Solliday is a veteran firefighter with more than fifteen years experience in both fighting fires and investigating their origins. His sterling reputation precedes him and lands him the role as the investigator on the case of an arsonist whose penchant for fire has resulted in homicide. His only problem is his new partner. Homicide detective Mia Mitchell misses her old partner. He actually listened to her and valued her presence. Not like Reed. But she persists because she knows that the arsonist's motivations for the fire can't simply be insurance money. As yet another fire is set and another person killed, Mia finally convinces Reed that there is a more insidious force at work. But this arsonist is unlike any other that Reed has ever encountered. His thirst for destruction is unquenchable, his desire so deep that annihilating structures is no longer enough. Murder is his only satisfaction. He knows that Reed and Mia are closing in on him, but he's not going down quietly. He's taking out the people dearest to Reed and Mia, one by one, and then he's setting his sights on Mia.
